Business Intelligence (BI); the term is bandied about so frequently today that it might seem like everyone except you already understands it. The truth is that like “Big Data”, another biz-tech term bandied about these days, business intelligence is actually not well understood at all. Most people who talk about business intelligence have at best a general notion of what it means and almost no experience with actually using BI in a meaningful way. However, BI is an important new tool for modern business.

Advances in computing power can now give businesses ways to analyze data that they never could before. With these advances, firms can make decisions about pricing, marketing, new products, and resource allocation more effectively than they have ever been able to in the past. Major corporations like Kroger are starting to use BI to help determine what products they should advertise to specific customers. General Electric is using BI to more efficiently run its industrial maintenance schedules. Citi is using BI to help proactively figure out the maximum interest rates various customers are willing to pay. BI is useful in all of these settings and much more.

Some of the review and exam questions were irrelevant or out right wrong. The bullet points could have been organized better to be more communicative and concise. The course failed to bring up that there might be any ethical concerns regarding big data and instead expected us to drink the "kool aide" without introducing that there might be any critical analysis regarding the topic.

Great course to use as an introduction to the concept of Business Intelligence. Very easy-to-follow and the instructor is clearly knowledgeable in the topic (and does not merely read the slides but instead presents interesting examples to bring the concept to life). Definitely made me interested in learning more about the topic and exploring his more detailed courses.

This is great information and the presentation is effective on a very important trend in business. all of us at GT need to be conversant in this area, although it seems we have doing this in our practice for some time--just more informally.

4

Business Intelligence is so important so getting accounting staff to understand it better is critical - especially in an industry where stats and metrics are just as important as financial results.
4
Member's Profile
This is a good intro to business intelligence. The lecture and slides were easy to follow. The exam was poorly constructed, with some questions that had more than one potentially correct answer.
5

Great knowledge on BI. You usually hear about the growing trends in the industry, but Data Analytics has been an emerging industry. This course provides good insight in the subject matter.
5

I like the contrast and examples the instructor used to compare earlier forms of data analysis and the current and emerging trends and power of today's Business Intelligence tools.
4

It was pretty basic. Only 20% of the information shared in this course was new. Everything else is pretty common knowledge. I was looking for more practical, hands-on approach.

3

A good overview. The slides could use some help - they looked like they were from the 1990's. P.S. the possessive form of "its" does not have an apostrophe.

hi I'm ready to take the exam but I'm not able to access it clicking on the Final Exam box. What's the next step so I can complete this course? Also the program doesn't remember where I have last left off from my previous session so I have to guess. Is there a way to have the program remember where I finished off?
