  • Member since 2019

Since 1992, David has worked as an strategy consultant, facilitator, and teacher, working in corporate, not-for-profit, and university settings. He designs and teaches management development programs responsible for strategic realignment and effective execution. These interactive, engaging, and conceptually rigorous programs supplement the “what” of a corporate vision with the “why” of the external changes in technology, customer behavior, and competitive actions that necessitate change.

David is also a seasoned facilitator, helping business leaders and their teams get past the roadblocks that stop them from making the decisions and commitments their strategies demand. He works across a range of settings, from individual coaching, to ongoing project team support, to large, multi-day events.

He is the co-author of The Art of Business (Barrett-Koehler Publishers, 2005), which was published in five languages. He has extensive experience as a speaker, addressing audiences in Europe, Asia, and North America about technology trends, innovation, and the synthesis of work and art.

His accomplishments include:

  • Creating and teaching graduate-level courses at Harvard University: Strategic Business Insight (Fall 2016, 2017, and 2018) and Behavioral Economics and Decision Making (2018). Both courses are taught in a hybrid mode, blending online and on-campus learning. Strategic Business Insight has also been delivered as a three-day, on-campus executive program.
  • Designing and teaching executive development programs over 12 years for a $25 billion global technology company. The flagship annual strategy program was delivered globally each year from 2010 through 2016, along with additional courses covering competitive strategy, technology innovation, business planning, and finance and accounting. Two of the annual strategy programs were reformatted as MOOCs and delivered online to 3000 managers worldwide.
  • Designing and leading two-day “exploration events” for the staff of the US Navy’s think tank, the Strategic Studies Group, each year from 2005 through 2012
  • Leading board retreats and executive workshops for over a dozen nationally recognized performing arts organizations

Earlier in his career, David was part of the leadership team at the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Center for Business Innovation. He created and led the CBI Network, a community of innovators and thought leaders in fifteen countries around the world. He designed and facilitated the CBI's “raves,” one-day events bringing together experts from diverse fields to explore emerging topics like the user experience and machine learning. He also facilitated large, multi-day events for clients such as GlaxoSmithKline and Royal Dutch Shell, using the Design Shop methodology of MG Taylor.

He has worked as a management consultant at Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman) and Bain & Company. He has also worked in real estate investment banking at Sonnenblick-Goldman (now part of Cushman & Wakefield) and as the VP of Finance for a major real estate developer.

David earned an AB in economics (magna cum laude) from Harvard College, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
