Hello students.  My name is Craig J. Hanson.  I will be facilitating Excel for the hands-on Controller CFO - How to clean up 'dirty' data and enhance your lookup skillset!   Throughout this process, I want you all to think of me as an ally.  I am here for you to help you understand the material we will cover.

I have an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Central Connecticut State University, an MBA from Marist College and have earned the Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designations.  I've experienced 'distance learning' from the student and faculty perspective, having worked over 10 years as a faculty member in this same arena.   Overall, my teaching career has included both traditional (face to face classroom teaching) and distance learning over the past decade and I’m anxious to share any and all experiences with you.

My professional work experience has been split:  8 years in the Health Insurance industry (Aetna, HealthNet and Anthem) from 1993-2000.  My responsibilities ranged from Benefits Consultant to Financial Underwriter/Policy Analysis.  The next 6+ years (2001 - 2007) I spent with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as a Financial Reporting Analyst.  With CSC, I had a wide range of experiences - as I traveled to many client sites.   However, I also enjoyed some telecommuting convenience - making online education a welcome related experience!  In the middle of 2007, I made a career change - signing on with Nucor Steel Corporation as an Assistant Controller, where I oversaw many aspects of the Accounting function.  In 2010, I moved to a similar position for a company called Luvata.   In 2011, I moved to Corporate Controller for a large real estate company (Prudential) - thankfully working my way up the Accounting ladder!  Since then, I've had three stints for private companies as Accounting Manager/Controller/CFO.  In all these jobs, I’ve had to master using Excel in order for my duties to be completed in the most efficient manner.

I'm thankful for the opportunities so far in my career – both professionally and academically.   It will be my pleasure to "meet" all of you as we delve into this course.

Welcome!!!!
