In this session Excel expert David H. Ringstrom, CPA will present numerous techniques that he relies on to improve the integrity of spreadsheets that he builds for himself and others. The webinar covers design techniques, formulas that add resilience, using Conditional Formatting to identify unprotected worksheet cells, and much more.
David demonstrates every technique at least twice: first, on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps, and second, in Excel 2016. He draws your attention to any differences in Excel 2013, 2010, or 2007 during the presentation as well as in his detailed handouts. - Learning a simple design technique that greatly improves the integrity of Excel’s SUM function.
- Preserving key formulas using hide and protect features.
- Protecting workbooks to prevent users from renaming, hiding, unhiding, or otherwise affecting worksheets.
- Removing Conditional Formatting when it's no longer needed within a spreadsheet.
- Summing disparate sections of a spreadsheet quickly with the SUBTOTAL function.
- Toggling the Locked status of a worksheet cell on or off by way of a custom shortcut.
- Using Conditional Formatting to identify unlocked cells into which data can be entered.
- Using range names to streamline formulas and bookmark key inputs within a workbook.

David H. Ringstrom is a CPA and owner of Accounting Advisors, Inc., an Atlanta-based spreadsheet consulting firm that he started in 1991. David speaks at conferences on Excel and presents scores of webinars each year. He is an author and served as the technical editor for over 30 books on accounting software. Some of his freelance articles on spreadsheets have been published internationally.
