Content is adequate, although as a University Accounting Professor, I disagree with some of the information shared. There was a statement that Assets - are always "debit" accounts - I would clarify this to indicate a debit normal balance - it makes it sound as you can only debit this account. There was a slide 7 minutes in providing a visual of the accounting equation. It would be helpful to have a total for the assets - there is a total on the other side.
As a Professor, I find great issue with resources not being cited. Images were shared with no source, Home Depot f/s were shared with no source. This is really not acceptable. Instructor was "against" t-accounts - I would be for them as a great learning resource and also for later application. I could not listen to much of the training due to these issues. The last question on the quiz needs to identify whether the payment is being now or in the future in order to select the correct credit account. There is a typo on question 8. I did not find many phrases appropriate for a training session - maybe fine for a weekend with the guys - or away from a learning environment "Holy Crap", "Bunch of Bull", "Crap load", For these reasons, I could not rate the course higher. I also felt I was being yelled at and had to turn the volume down quite a bit from the previous training sessions from the same site. I would not review other trainings from this same provider.
The best course ever. Very si ole and straightforward. The instructor organized the material very well and present in a way that was easy to grasp. I would reccome d this course to my friends, family and colleagues. Looking forward to taking another course. *********************************************************************************************(*********************************************666666363636363636363636363636#6#6$6$6$6#6$(#6$6$6$6$6$6363($($(&(&(&(&(&(&(&*&*&(&(4(4738$8$)$($(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&(&
Pretty good presentation. I understood that we were able to review our final exam results; including which questions, if any, were wrong.
Further, while I thought the course was good, it could be improved by reviewing language, spelling and degrading commentary which detracts from a fluid learning process. Perhaps consider opining on the specific GAAP (US or Canadian) or IFRS that you refer to as well as stating it is your opinion on how to view debits and credits vs T-accounts or terminology to process financial statements rather than an absolute.
The name of the course is Basic Accounting in One hour, yet the subjects presented, specifically: Contra Accounts, Depreciation, Dividends, Bad debt expense and residual accounts are not basic at all and the amount of subject matter covered in the one hour, could have easily taken an entire semester to cover properly. I feel that the data was handled so quickly and glossed over that I don't know how much someone who did not have a background in accounting would get out of this course. I did like the Excel schedule and some of the slides.
I truly question whether anyone can learn these accounting principles in one hour. I suppose you could memorize and regurgitate the information, but don't see how one newly exposed to accounting could truly apply it. I have been an accountant for 20 years and question some of the instructor's statements. You can certainly credit an asset if you want to. It's not the accounts "normal" balance, but it can be done. I find T-accounts super helpful in my day to day work, but we all do things differently.
Effective course that teaches the basics of accounting. I like the step by step explanation of how the different types of accounting statements tie together. It helps me understand the concepts better and apply them to the different scenarios.
One thing I disliked is how it doesn't show the questions we got wrong. It would be better if the website shows incorrect answers after the final exam is complete so I can review them.
If we've failed the final exam, I wish the the program would show us which questions we answered correctly, and which were incorrect so we can go about correcting the incorrect ones. Having to restart to a blank test leads me to second guess answers I might have gotten right initially. I don't learn from my mistakes if I never knew which had been answered incorrectly in the first place.
Overall it was a very good course. The instructor went over from the very basic journal entries to constructing the financial statements. I really liked the journal entry practices.
However I do think that was a lot of information to cover in just about an hour. Many of the contents can be a little confusing to understand for someone who is new to accounting.
This is a great quick refresher on super-basic accounting concepts. Would be helpful for anyone not in the field, or looking for a refresher on concepts they haven't considered since Accounting 101.
Anyone looking for a more in depth review of these concepts should check out Back to the Basics: Accounting Fundamentals Course Series by Erik Slayter.
Like the way you put everything transaction represented in debit/(credit) this makes life so easy. Furthermore, I like the fact that you used working trial balance as a base to complete the income statement, statements of equity changes and balance sheets because it really draw out the real flow of how financial statements to be put up.
This course is great for anyone needing a basic understanding of accounting. Since accounting is the language of business, it's imperative that all those in business have this fundamental understanding. Although this course is geared towards beginners, it can also be helpful for those looking to brush up on their accounting.
This is an excellent overview of accounting. True beginners might be a little overwhelmed by the amount of information provided but the instructor does an excellent job breaking things down and explaining each step. It is also a great refresher for those of us who've been away from basic accounting for awhile.
Very basic. If you are truly new to accounting the details about when to debit or credit various types of accounts will need some supplementary knowledge not found in this course. Without the extra help you will not be prepared to consistently make correct journal entries.
Decent beginners course.
Stated learning objectives were met
Stated prerequisite requirements were appropriate and sufficient
Program materials were relevant and contributed to the achievement of the learning objectives
Time allotted to the learning activity was appropriate
Instructor(s) was effective
The course was pretty straight forward and to the point,
Surprised that this course condenses chunks of books in a short period of time, making this effective in terms of time.
I think newbies in accounting as well as those who need to refresh their knowledge would gain from this.
Instructor crystalized organized basics of accounting in a very understandable format in only an hour. I have a BS in Acctg. and an MBA, but took this as a refresher course since I don't deal with accounting much anymore. Detangles confusing debits and credits so it all makes sense.
This course really assist in understanding the basic of accounting. The instructor was clear and concise in his explanation of how the structure of accounting is applied. I look forward in seeking additional information that will enable to further understand accounting. Thank You!
I understand that this is supposed to be a fast course, but had trouble following along so quickly. This was especially true when trying to follow along on excel. I did like that the course was shown with an example, and that the example was consistent throughout the entire course.
This is probably the best course in covering fundamental accounting from beginning to end. The instructor did a great job in explaining financial statements, journal entries, analysis and trial balance. The financial events and how they were presented in excel was well done.
The samples provided is very useful. I am posting journal entries into P/S for a large corporation after not doing any journal entries for 6 years and needed the crash course. Now, in looking at this example I believe I can set up a great trial balance to review my entries.
The course was really illuminating explaining the debit and credit process. I liked thinking of them as negative and positive balances rather than left and right. I really liked the examples but wished we spent more time on the building financial statements portion.
This course provided an excellent refresher of accounting basics, including many relevant case studies to further illustrate key principles. The instructor presented materials in an easy-to-understand manner, and the supporting materials were helpful as well.
This was a very good summary of how to do accounting. I enjoyed the instructor, as he was enjoyable to listen to. Although this course was kind of difficult for someone with no prior accounting education, I will utilize this course again in the future.
Very good, very basic overview. Blair provides an excellent introduction to the topic that helps make the "accounting-speak" jargon more transparent, so that newbies can understand better what they are looking at, and can be more productive.
Blair is a gifted teacher as well as presentor.i`m a novice in accounting but wanted to learn as part of ongoing leadership training .very well-formatted course that starts slowly by building concepts and keeps upgrading levels until ends.
Course was informative.
Liked that the professor used layman terms for beginners to understand the accounting language.
The glossary, slides and excel schedule was very helpful in understanding how to create the financial statements.
I was looking for other courses by Blair and found this one. I watched thinking it might be helpful to our interns and new accounting staff...it is the best intro course I have seen and I plan to use some of this for our staff orientation.
Thought it was very helpful; he did speak a bit fast so it was difficult to take notes, but I could always pause the video or refer to the PDFs at the end, (so it wasn't much of an issue).
He explained things very well most of the time.
I thought this was a good course. You would need to know just a little bit about accounting to not be confused since it's such a quick overview, but is a great refresher for someone that may not have seen the information in a while.
Good thorough review of the basics of accounting. And I liked his graphic of Assets = Liabilities +Equity, that the boxes on either side of the = have to be exactly the same size. That is a good concept to share with non-accountants.
Very informative course, however it contains loads of information to retain in one hour. I suggest you block off 2 hours to take notes and to fully comprehend what is being taught in this course. Knowledgeable instructor!
This is an excellent refresher course that I would recommend. It is a good suggestion to keep the slide materials for future reference and is also great for recertification of the CPP. I highly recommend this course.
quick paced and a high overview that anyone with some basic financial background can appreciate as a first step into some of the formal aspects of financial reporting. Good/challenging content for the basic level.
Very clear powerpoint and video. A solid review and foundation for basic accounting which is necessary for any financial/accounting position as well as others in all backgrounds should have a basic understanding.
This is my first ever accounting course. I own a few businesses and am preparing to be a CFO. I believe your app is helpful and the supplements to the video are very informative and important to the course.
One of the Review questions has a wrong answer...
<div class="italic orange margin-top-20">The answer has been corrected. Thank you for letting us know about the problem! — Proformative Editor</div>
This course is suitable for beginners, and also for those who already have an accounting background as it helps build the fundamentals of accounting. The professor teaches clearly with specific examples.
I've never taken an accounting course. I wish it was way more visual than just text on a slide. When he was talking through the financial statements, we should have seen his process, not just heard it.
This course could use interactions throughout the course to allow more review of the material to make sure what is being learned is retained as knowledge and not just the quiz and exam at the end.
Very efficient and effective. It covered all the basics in an easy to follow format. Great for people who have never looked at accounting concepts before, or those looking for a refresher course.
This is a very basic yet very informative class on the basics of accounting, this is useful for someone interested in accounting or a person that performs tasks that impact accounting.
Thank you, this course was great. I felt like it covered everything necessary and provided me with the tools to pass the exam at the end. Overall I would recommend this to a colleague.
I have done accounting before, and it has been awhile. The course covered a lot of ground and was simple for anyone. The examples were great and assisted in understanding the material.
This was a really good course. I took accounting courses a long time ago and felt this course was detailed and excellent for those that have had accounting and needed a refresher..
The course is very understandable and useful. I've learned new things about accounting, and understood more clear some core concepts. Excellent explanation, thank you very much!
I feel like I have a much better understanding of general accounting practices now. Different from the typical t chart debits on the left credits on the right which was great!
This was a very good introduction to basic accounting without getting bogged down in the details that often confuse brand new students. I really like Mr. Cook's enthusiasm.
I learn better kinesthetically, so an option to actually do tasks like journal entries, etc would have been far more helpful.
Class was still outstanding despite that.
I like the course, simple and easy to understand.
It's nice that I can go back and take it again.
I also like that graphics was incorporated in explaining the course.
I loved this super quick overview of accounting. I don't know how useful it would be in the real world, but to get a quick grasp of concepts, it's a good place to start.
Although a bit basic for a CPA CPE, I would recommend this class to non accountants. I think everyone in business should take a class like this annually as a refresher.
A useful refresher course for anyone with an accounting or finance background. It helped to pin down some of the basic points in preperation for more involved concepts.
Excellent content, well explained and demonstrated. Appreciate the excel sheet provided for practice. Slides were meaningful and sample transaction entries were useful!
This was a good quick overview of basic accounting. The instructor provided good examples of real life situations. He covered a lot of material in an effective manner.
Great basic course for overview of accounting. I will use to mentor non-financial types that want to expand their business acumen. Thank you, Blair, your the Best.
It was a lot more educational than i expected. Super useful given the roll i'm in. Thank you for the course! Wish the actual program was slightly shorter in time.
A little too basic for CPA's but a great tool for a CFO to use as a guide when training managers and owners basic accounting and financial stmt understanding.
Audio quality wasn't great. The complexity of instruction went from easy to hard very quickly — but I guess that's what happens when it's just one hour.
very informational in a short amount of time. if you pause and work the examples with Blair, i think you can really learn a lot in a short amount of time.
hard stuff to learn. I don't know if I'll ever get it down. This is my third class and I'm still unsure of some of it. Of course, I don't use it everyday.
The course is as described. An introduction to general accounting and its concepts. The lecturer was clear in presentation and concepts clearly explained.
I liked the supporting materials for this course. I often had to pause and take my own notes. I would have liked a better understand of journal entries
I really enjoyed this course. You make it fun and there was a couple of times I even laughed out loud. You kept my attention the entire time. Thank you
The pace of this course was perfect and the energy level of the instructor kept me engaged. This course covered a lot of ground in a very short time.
Great overview of Accounting that clearly explains everything from creating a Chart of Accounts to completing Income Statements and a Balance Sheet.
The course is clear and concise. The presenter's level of enthusiasm for the subject matter makes the topic interesting and holds one's attention.
Great review of accounting basics. If you are just in the beginning of learning accounting or just need a quick refresher course, this will do it.
More bookkeeping than into level folks are going to understand. Need more concepts like balance sheet as a snapshot, and i/s as cumulative amounts
MR.Blair taugh me the steps to prepare the financial statement, which I did not practice much during my work. The course was very helpful. Thanks.
Good basic accounting course--liked the lesson. The instructor made understanding debits and credits and the financial statements easy to follow.

Very simple and informative explanation and demonstration with a set of transactions for a new company - pretty good for an introductory class.
This was a great course to brush on the basics. So easy to understand. The slides are very easy to follow and I like there are examples.

Do not like that I do not know which answer I got wrong.
Great presenting a confusing subject covering a lot of material. Will be helpful to use when explaining accounting to non financial people
Course was a great refresher and would be good for a beginner. Just make sure you turn your volume down because the speaker is exuberant.
I was planning on reviewing my introductory book (which contains 23 chapters), but this lesson covered everything in less than an hour.
Course is what it says it is: for beginners but also a nice refresher for those of us who don't do actual accounting on a regular basis.
Very straightforward material. A good refresher for those who have been out of classes for a while, and a good starter for beginners.
Very straight forward and helpful. I enjoyed the instructors examples and it was a great refresher as someone who works in banking now.
Great presentation. Very clear way to better explain debits and credits. This spreadsheet tool was the highlight of the course for me.
I worked as an accounting professor for a few years and had a similar style to teaching. It is extremely effective. Nice review sir.
Good course on the " how to do basic accounting in one hour". I probably wouldn't say its a beginners level but still a good overview.
For a beginner, I was surprised by how much great, knowledgeable information you learn about Accounting in such a short time frame.

This course helped solidify my understanding of debits and credits and the difference between an Income Statement and Balance Sheet!
Concise and well-organized. Very good introduction for those new to accounting or professionals who need a refresher in the basics.
This course did what it said it would do, but it was too fast to retain some of the information. However, it was a good overview.
A good revision course with practice questions. Well presented and well explained. Improved my knowledge of accounting standard.
Great introduction to accounting journal entries specifically. I especially liked the supporting materials for reference tools.

Excellent course developed and the way presented by Mr. Blair Cook. I have never leant accounting in such a nice way.
The instructor makes it easy to understand the basic accounting structure. This was very informative and clear to know. I look forward in grasping much more in the account field... Thank You
