Description
Let’s face it, products and quality don’t come about from thin air, it all depends on the employees who work within a team at some level; there are different teams for different operations/processes.
Individuals within a team work together focused towards a shared objective of increasing customer satisfaction through improved quality, cost, and delivery, which in turn increases competitiveness.
Good relationships between teams and individuals within teams, creates a happier workforce, greater synergy, and allows people to help each other, all of which increase job satisfaction, as there is a sense of harmony.
On the contrary, if working relationships are poor, then everyone will be constantly pulling in different directions, which leads to little success.
Teams are formed despite cultural differences and different backgrounds, just like in society, and people find ways of getting along, for their own benefit, and the benefit of the company.
It must be noted that first impressions have a big impact on relationships, thus behaviour, dress, and language all have a big part to play.
Ultimately, we’re all different, we have different personalities, and different opinions, it’s important that individuals stay focused on the primary objective of the job, that being said, conflicts will happen.
To resolve any issues with other colleagues, approach the other individual and try and resolve the issue quickly and amicably, if that fails, then ask a friend, independent arbitrator, or someone from an association; if that fails, then go see your team leader, as there will be a formal procedure for such issues.
A useful tip for disagreements is to always refer back to the team’s objectives; accepting that they’ll take priority over individual desires can diffuse any issues.
That being said, challenging ideas is a huge factor for continuous improvement and improving quality, cost, and delivery (QCD); but they must be done in a manner that doesn’t offend the actual person.
