This webinar will discuss the benefits of linking the strategic plan to the annual budget; identify several key components of strategic plans; and explore areas where accounting professionals can provide more value to the existing budget process.

While most management textbooks discuss the integration of the strategic plan and the annual budget, the reality is often quite different. Developing the annual budget is often a finance led exercise emphasizing short-term accounting measures with limited linkage to long-term operational measures. However, when linked to the strategic plan, the annual budget can measure progress towards the critical factors necessary for long-term profitability.

Topics covered include strength, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Growth-Share matrix, scenario planning, contingency planning and developing key performance indicators.

Learning Objectives

After attending this event you will be able to:
Explain why an effective planning process is necessary to achieve congruence between the strategic plan, mid-term tactical plans, and the annual budget.
Demonstrate an understanding of (SWOT) analysis, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Growth-Share matrix, scenario planning, and contingency planning.
Develop linkage between strategic plan critical success factors and internal performance measures.
