In this innovative one-hour session Excel expert David Ringstrom, CPA, brings a new approach to learning Microsoft Excel. Unlike traditional webinars where it can be hard to try out techniques as the instructor is teaching, this session will have purposeful breaks for you to try out techniques on your own.

David will provide an overview and then demonstrate each feature or technique, and then will pause the presentation to give the audience time to try the technique first hand. Each break will be roughly 3 minutes, depending upon the topic. David will advance to the next topic once at least 2/3 of the audience has reported that they’ve completed their work.

This is designed to strike a balance and keep the presentation moving. In addition David will field audience questions and provide first hand support during each of the work breaks.

Topics to be included are:

  • Identifying the requirements of ideal data sets to be analyzed within your pivot tables.
  • Compiling unwieldy data into the format required for pivot table analysis quickly and easily.
  • Using Excel’s Go To Special command to easily select blank cells within a list.
  • Using a simple keyboard shortcut to post the same formula to multiple cells at once.
  • Learning how the Table feature can vastly improve the integrity of pivot tables in Excel.
  • Mitigating the side effects of converting a table back to a normal range of cells.
  • Staving off frustration by filling blank cells within any columns that contain numbers with zeros before you create pivot tables.
  • Getting control of unruly pivot table data by creating a macro that can automatically transform all count fields into sums and apply number formatting in one fell swoop.
  • Creating a macro that will automatically remove the words “Sum Of” from your pivot table fields, as well as automatically format numbers and replace counts with sums.

David H. Ringstrom is a CPA and owner of Accounting Advisors, Inc., an Atlanta-based spreadsheet consulting firm that he started in 1991. David speaks at conferences on Excel and presents scores of webinars each year. He is an author and served as the technical editor for over 30 books on accounting software. Some of his freelance articles on spreadsheets have been published internationally.
