Much has been written about Emotional Intelligence: EQ – the Q stands for Quotient – a measurement. The Q term is taken from IQ tests – Intelligence Quotient.  Different tests have been devised to measure it and of course different people define it differently.

My definition is simple: Emotional intelligence is a set of emotional and social skills that establish how well we perceive and express ourselves, develop and maintain social relationships, cope with challenges and engage in life in an effective and meaningful way. Some of the smartest people I know lack EQ, as it and IQ are quite unrelated.

I’m going to share some of my observations and direct experiences with EQ as a means to helping you improve yours'.

This course explores several aspects of EI or EQ as it is called and offers enough descriptions to enable the listener to self-identify and decide which of the elements need self-improvement.  It will also be a useful tool for management in its quest to be as useful as possible to the people who report to them.

Learning Objectives
  • Explore the different aspects of EQ and how it is measured
  • Identify specific aspects and how they manifest themselves in real people
  • Recognize ways in which EI can be improved
  • Discover some of the measurement tools in common usage

This course provided an in-depth review of the difference between EI and EQ, which I found to be very informative. I really enjoyed the various case studies the instructor discussed throughout the presentation as well as the supplementary course materials. A great refresher to help keep self-awareness top of mind.

A good refresher (or introductory) course on emotional intelligence, with a more in-depth discussion on self-awareness and self-management. I've seen several of Dr. Diamond's webinars, and she is an excellent instructor who draws upon decades of experience as a business consultant and provides real-life examples.

As a parent of a child on the AS I found this course a bit offensive. Of course EI is important in order to function in society but like the author illustrated not everyone has it innately and even those with low EI do well professionally. I think she used the word "nerd" in a pejorative way.

I listened to this webinar with rapt attention and will likely being reading her books because emotional intelligence is not just faking it until you make it. It is about being educated about what is really going on with you and those with whom you have a relationship.

I didn't feel like the questions about The TV Show or "Nerds" were appropriate to the material. "Nerd" tends to be perceived as a derogatory term and doesn't feel like it fits in with the concept of Emotional Intelligence.
